Sweet escapes in the heart of Ardèche
From our hotel in Lanarce, you’ll be able to visit some of the many sites in Ardèche, Haute-Loire and Lozère, each more beautiful than the other. Our hosts, Mr and Mrs Ollier, will be more than happy to help you discover Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, where nature, culture, history and cuisine combine to create an outstandingly interesting region.
Your first stop will be Lanarce in the Ardèche mountains, surrounded by magnificent forests with glorious pastures and rivers. The village offers stunning views and plenty of activities. Go fishing for trout in the highly rated Espezonnette river, or hike along the Voie Napoléonienne to meet the GR 4 and 7 hiking paths and the Chemin Stevenson. If you’re more into casual walking, while away the hours amid the shadows of the pines. In the village itself, you’ll love the Ranc Courbier, Neo-Romanesque church built in 1875 in the heart of the village, and you’ll be haunted by the legendary Auberge de Peyrebeille inn (or “Auberge Rouge”), the site of bloody murders in the 1830s and popularised in modern France by the 1951 film with the actor Fernandel.
Nearby, there’s the Monts d’Ardèche Natural Regional Park, the Gerbier de Jonc mountain, the source of the Loire, Mont Méznec (the highest peak in Ardèche), the Ray Pic waterfall, Lakes Issarlès Bouchet and Naussac, the town of Aubenas with its château, Antraigues-sur-Volane (home village of renowned chanson française singer Jean Ferrat) and the Pont d’Arc Cave (replica of Chauvet Cave, famed for its prehistoric paintings).
